Job Description:

The Conveyor Maintenance Manager role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is vital to the Company’s distribution success, overseeing the conveyor system that drives the Company’s distribution operation. This role is responsible for maximizing the throughput of conveyable goods as well as the utilization of the Company’s warehouse control system (WCS). The role also proactively troubleshoots  issues, monitors productivity, and defines the data reports that guide management plans and decisions. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Lead a team of maintenance mechanics and sort deck operators to ensure safe, cost-effective, and productive conveyor operation; manage associate performance, provide coaching, and delegate workload. Define and develop relevant reporting to support the needs of operation.
  • Automation & Programmable Logical Controller (“PLC”) Expertise: Maintain advanced knowledge of Allen-Bradley/Siemens PLCs, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) telemetry, and routing logic to troubleshoot system halts and optimize warehouse flow.
  • Print and Apply (P&A) Mastery: Maintain technical proficiency in Zebra/SATO print engines, pneumatic/electric applicator assemblies, and "Scan-after-Print" validation loops to ensure adequate support for the operation enabling an efficient and accurate operation.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) Strategy: Establish and manage a preventative maintenance program that exceeds manufacturer recommendations; utilize software to track maintenance activities and spare parts inventory. Identify external sources for materials and equipment not carried on site.
  • Reliability & Technical Diagnostics: Possess expert knowledge of Motorized Drive Rollers (MDR), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) configuration, high-speed scan tunnels, and 24VDC/480VAC electrical circuits in order to develop preventative maintenance plans, diagnose system failure, and recommend advancements in technology to increase efficiency.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with DC leadership to align PM schedules and "break/fix" work with operational needs, ensuring maximum system uptime and flexibility.
  • Talent Development: Lead the hiring, onboarding, and technical mentoring of new team members, ensuring all staff have the appropriate tools, system access, and safety training. Mentor, coach and develop the team.
  • Budget & Asset Management: Develop and track capital spending plans and departmental budgets; manage outside contractors and identify external sources for specialized materials.
  • Safety & Compliance: Implement and audit comprehensive safety programs, strictly enforcing LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and OSHA 1910.212 standards for machine guarding.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry trends to bring innovative operational ideas to the facility; manage multiple internal and external projects to hit deadlines and operational goals.
  • Emergency Response: Maintain full working knowledge of all aspects of the conveyor system  and remain available on-call for emergency troubleshooting and system resolution. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 10 or more years of experience in conveyor maintenance (with 5 or more years managing a conveyor maintenance function) is required.
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets) and analytic tools.

Work Environment:

  • Work primarily in a distribution center environment. Physically active position including positioning oneself, moving, transporting, and ascending and descending ladders, to relocate products and equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to outside weather conditions and/or moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Some work in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Some sedentary, and near vision use for reading and computer use.

The annual salary for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Salary commensurates with years of experience.
