About this position: 

Lake Michigan Credit Union is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Manager. This role is responsible for leading and overseeing LMCU's Facilities Maintenance team to ensure all facilities are maintained in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. This role provides leadership, coaching, training, and performance management for Maintenance Technicians while overseeing maintenance operations, facility systems, and capital improvement projects.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive facilities maintenance experience, strong technical knowledge, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, functionality, appearance, and reliability across all LMCU locations.

What You'll Do:

Facilities Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance activities across all LMCU facilities, ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, functional, and well-maintained.
  • Manage maintenance and repair work involving plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, carpentry, painting, landscaping, power washing, and other facility maintenance needs.
  • Monitor and manage the Building Energy Management System to maintain optimal building performance and occupant comfort.
  • Perform maintenance functions as needed to support the team and operational requirements.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and provide recommendations to ensure all locations meet LMCU's high standards for safety, appearance, and reliability.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Maintenance Technicians.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and train maintenance personnel.
  • Establish performance expectations, create annual goals, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team environment that aligns with LMCU's culture and values.

Project & Vendor Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee facility maintenance projects, including HVAC replacements, LED lighting upgrades, and other capital improvement initiatives.
  • Manage both planned projects and unplanned maintenance emergencies, ensuring timely completion and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Partner with external contractors and vendors, ensuring all work is completed according to project specifications and service agreements.
  • Recommend facility improvements and capital projects that support long-term operational efficiency and budget planning.

Communication & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a key point of contact for Branch Managers, Corporate Department Managers, building occupants, vendors, and service providers regarding maintenance activities and facility-related concerns.
  • Communicate project updates, maintenance schedules, and issue resolution status to stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships to ensure effective coordination and exceptional service across the organization.

Equipment, Safety & Budget Support

  • Oversee department equipment, tools, and maintenance vehicles, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and in good working condition.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance, servicing, and repairs for department assets.
  • Promote and enforce workplace safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and general maintenance safety practices.
  • Assist with annual budget planning and provide recommendations for facility maintenance and capital expenditures.

  • Maintain regular, predictable, and reliable attendance as an essential function of the role.

What You’ll Bring

Experience & Education:

  • 8–10 years of facilities maintenance, building operations, or related experience
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general facility repairs
  • Experience managing maintenance projects and coordinating vendor relationships
  • Familiarity with Energy Management Systems (EMS) or Building Management Systems (BMS) preferred
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and facility operations best practices
  • Understanding of workplace safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements
