Position Summary:
The Maintenance Manager leads the site’s maintenance and reliability function, reporting directly to the Plant Manager. This role is accountable for maximizing equipment uptime, reliability, and lifecycle performance through the development and execution of a proactive maintenance strategy including preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
Working cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, and Food Safety, the Maintenance Manager ensures all equipment and systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and food safety standards. The role leads a team of maintenance professionals and drives a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive maintenance strategy including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance
Lead, direct, and schedule Maintenance personnel across all plant maintenance functions
Drive equipment reliability improvements through root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and asset criticality prioritization
Own and optimize the CMMS system, including planning, scheduling, backlog management, and data integrity
Monitor and improve key performance metrics including OEE, MTBF, MTTR, downtime, and PM/PdM compliance
Collaborate with Operations to improve planned vs. unplanned work ratios and overall equipment effectiveness
Ensure all maintenance activities support HACCP, Preventive Controls, GMPs, and maintain audit readiness (SQF/FSSC, FDA, customer audits)
Enforce hygienic maintenance practices, including food-grade lubrication, foreign material control, and allergen control
Champion a strong safety culture, including ownership of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, electrical safety, and contractor safety
Plan, develop, and support execution of capital projects, including design input, installation, commissioning, and startup
Manage the maintenance budget, cost controls, and spare parts inventory to ensure optimal availability and cost efficiency
Oversee maintenance of plant utilities systems including steam, compressed air, refrigeration, and water systems
Lead, coach, and develop maintenance team members; implement training programs to build a multi-skilled workforce
Conduct performance reviews and drive accountability through clear objectives and expectations
Generate and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), Performance Qualifications Standards (PQS) and maintenance documentation
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment; maintain audit-ready conditions at all times
Communicate effectively across shifts and departments to ensure alignment and continuity of operations
Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives to support plant performance goals
Perform other duties as required
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Education and Experience
5–10+ years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing
Strong experience with CMMS systems, maintenance planning, and reliability programs (TPM, RCM, or similar)
Demonstrated knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and industrial electrical/control systems
Experience with mechanical systems including motors, drives, pumps, conveyors, and power transmission
Working knowledge of utility systems including steam, compressed air, and refrigeration
Familiarity with food safety and regulatory standards (HACCP, GMPs, SQF/BRC/FSSC)
Proven ability to analyze data and drive performance improvements through KPIs
Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
Intermediate to advanced computer skills
Working Conditions:
Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work in industrial environments
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions within a manufacturing setting
Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
Up to 15% travel to external sites and equipment/service suppliers
Ability to oversee maintenance operations and supply room activities across all shifts
