Job Summary:  The Maintenance Manager directs, manages and coordinates the overall maintenance projects, functions and initiatives in all production facilities. The incumbent coordinates the activities of all maintenance supervisors, technicians, and related functions engaged in the repair, maintenance, installation of machines, tools and equipment in the Bowman Andros Products food processing facilities. Must be service minded and capable of maintaining an excellent working relationship with production, quality, and safety personnel.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, develops and retains technical expertise to maintain production and necessary utility systems.
  • Supervises installation of new processing equipment and works to optimize uptime and minimize downtime.
  • Coaches and assists supervisors in executing short range planning as they supervise activities of maintenance techs and contractors.
  • Provides direction and makes tactical decisions while executing mid-range planning (beyond weekly activities), as it relates to driving improvement and implementing programs related to maintenance optimization.
  • Evaluates supervisors and technicians to determine opportunities for performance improvement and creates development plans.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining engineering & maintenance standards.
  • Provides engineering advice and leadership in establishing & refining Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, employee training, scheduling, etc.
  • Tracks PM completion and downtime, through weekly follow-up and reporting.
  • Maintains and controls an optimum level of spare parts inventory (min, max)
  • Oversees maintenance schedules, work orders and makes tactical decisions to optimize utilization of resources in alignment with equipment availability and plant priorities.
  • Controls spending and adherence to approved budget.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise, assisting Maintenance, Production, Sanitation & QA/QC on an on-going basis.
  • Tracks and evaluates maintenance & performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Pro-actively seeks to correct unsafe conditions and reports any conditions that are not immediately resolved.
  • Continuously promoting motivation among the staff to strive for more efficient and productive Maintenance operations, including modeling and leading high standards of customer service.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, is responsible for interviewing, selection, coaching, training, discipline and performance management of an hourly staff through positive relations, morale building, teamwork, and consistent leadership.
  • Coach and model behaviors for team members on appropriate processes and facilitate problem solving through teamwork and the promotion of a respectful environment, to include conducting and leading team meetings.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safe work practices and adheres to personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Other duties, as needed. 


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline strongly preferred.
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) strongly preferred.
  • In lieu of education, extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience in Industrial Maintenance.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible Maintenance or Engineering management experience within a manufacturing environment or industrial facility.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a food processing facility.
  • 24/7 Availability.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and efficiency skills.
  • Ability to prepare plans, detailed reports and maintain records.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills (e.g. team building, conflict resolution)
  • Willingness to share & teach others Maintenance/Engineering techniques.
  • Lean manufacturing/Six-Sigma methodologies desired.
  • PLC Programming experience is a plus.

 

Working Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a teammate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Maintenance Manager is required to work both in an office environment and on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate frequently will be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and/or cold. The teammate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and has to the risk of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise. 



Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and /or hear. The teammate frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, sit, crouch, or crawl. The teammate is occasionally required to taste, touch or smell. 

The teammates must frequently travel up and down stairs and other uneven work surfaces. Teammates must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull, and balance up to 75 pounds.
