About the Role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

Responsible for overseeing and executing the maintenance operations of a high-volume distribution warehouse that includes dry storage, chilled, and frozen environments. This role includes full accountability for the functionality, safety, and compliance of all facility systems and infrastructure, including but not limited to Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Ammonia systems. 


  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all preventative and corrective maintenance activities across all areas of the facility in accordance with established safety, legal, environmental, and food safety regulations, as well as quality standards.
  • Oversee all required operations, administration, and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Manage procurement of parts and services and collaborate with executives for approval.
  • Forecasting, negotiating pricing and/or contracts, and ordering with third party vendors.
  • Plan and oversee facility upgrades, renovations, and expansions in coordination with other departments.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, logs, inspections, and repairs.
  • Manage adherence to OSHA(PSM), EPA(RMP), FDA, and other regulatory standards as it applies to each area of the facility including the ammonia plant.
  • Assist and champion facility safety programs, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audits, certifications, insurance, and regulatory purposes.
  • Ensure that duties are completed in a timely manner. 
  • Work cohesively within the maintenance team and other departments of the company.
  • Supervise and direct the day-to-day activities of the maintenance staff through scheduling, planning, and training.
  • Share continuous improvement and cost optimization ideas.
  • Available 24/7 to oversee facility emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience Requirements: 

 

  • Preferred education minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess a solid work ethic.
  • 5+ years in industrial maintenance leadership, preferably in cold storage, food distribution, or food manufacturing
  • Language skills: Must be fluent in English. Speaking in Spanish is a plus.
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to coordinate, multitask and achieve set goals.
  • Possess basic computer skills (Microsoft 365 Suite)
  • Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems (CIRO certification a plus)
  • Experience managing OSHA(PSM) and EPA risk management programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems such as Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Ammonia Refrigeration
  • Experience hiring subcontractors for specialized maintenance work and signing off on maintenance contracts.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules for building systems.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude 
  • Ability to work independently and to conduct the completion of maintenance projects.


Certifications/Training


  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a 24hr HAZWOPER certification (company sponsored)
  • Must be able to pass a negative pressure respirator fit test.
  • Attend annual 8 hour required NH3 training locally.


Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Able to perform work in a combination of dry, refrigerated (35°F) and frozen (0°F) environments.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be available for emergency calls as needed.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, ammonia-based systems, and occasional working at heights.
  • Must be able to travel within the U.S. and/or Internationally (if needed).
