About the Role

 

Position Summary

The Regional Facilities & Asset Manager is responsible for the strategic oversight, maintenance, and lifecycle management of terminal facilities and physical assets across multiple inland river locations within the assigned region. This role ensures operational reliability, regulatory compliance, cost efficiency, and long-term asset sustainability in a heavy industrial, marine terminal environment.

The position partners closely with Terminal Managers, Maintenance teams, Safety, and Operations leadership to support safe, efficient cargo handling and terminal operations.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Management

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and overall condition of terminal infrastructure, including:
    • Docks and barging interfaces
    • Warehouses and storage facilities
    • Rail and truck loading/unloading areas
    • Administrative buildings and employee areas
  • Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs for all facilities
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA (29 CFR 1917), environmental, and local regulatory requirements
  • Conduct routine facility audits and inspections; implement corrective action plans

Asset Management

  • Maintain full visibility and accountability of regional assets, including:
    • Heavy equipment (cranes, loaders, material handlers)
    • Support equipment and tools
    • Facility systems and infrastructure components
  • Develop asset lifecycle strategies (repair vs. replace, capital planning, utilization optimization)
  • Partner with maintenance leadership to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability
  • Implement asset tracking systems and reporting standards

Capital Projects & Planning

  • Lead regional capital improvement projects from planning through execution
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, and timelines for facility upgrades and expansions
  • Manage third-party contractors and vendors to ensure quality and safety standards
  • Partner with senior leadership on long-term infrastructure planning aligned with growth strategy

Financial & Budget Management

  • Develop and manage regional facilities and asset budgets (OPEX and CAPEX)
  • Track and control maintenance and repair costs across terminals
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or operational performance
  • Provide regular reporting on asset performance, spend, and ROI

Operational Support

  • Collaborate with Terminal Managers to ensure facilities and assets support production goals
  • Assist in planning for throughput demands, cargo mix changes, and seasonal impacts
  • Support emergency response and rapid repair efforts to minimize operational disruptions

Leadership & Coordination

  • Provide direction and support to local maintenance teams across the region
  • Standardize best practices across terminals for maintenance and asset management
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for facilities and infrastructure within the region
  • Support training and development initiatives for maintenance personnel

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or asset management in an industrial environment
  • Experience in marine terminals, logistics, heavy equipment, or bulk material handling strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Industrial facility systems and infrastructure
    • Heavy equipment maintenance and lifecycle management
    • Preventative and predictive maintenance programs
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly marine terminal standards (29 CFR 1917)
  • Experience managing capital projects and contractor relationships
  • Proficiency in asset management systems, CMMS, and Microsoft Office tools

Leadership Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability in fast-paced operational environments
  • Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities simultaneously
  • Effective communication with both field personnel and senior leadership
  • High level of accountability with a focus on safety and operational excellence

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Regular travel required between regional terminal locations
  • Work performed in both office and field environments, including exposure to:
    • Heavy equipment operations
    • Outdoor conditions
    • Industrial and marine terminal settings
  • Must be able to respond to urgent operational issues as needed
