Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance functions of the facility, including the development and execution of preventive, predictive, corrective, and continuous improvement maintenance programs. This position leads the maintenance team in maximizing equipment reliability, availability, and operational efficiency while ensuring a safe and cost-effective work environment.
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment, facilities, vehicles, and support systems. The role also identifies and implements equipment improvements to enhance reliability, capability, and yield, prepares technical documentation and maintenance procedures, and supports operational excellence through strong leadership, planning, and project management.
Major Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the maintenance organization.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and FM Global recommendations.
- Incorporate and maintain safety observances, including proper PPE usage, machine guarding, and safe work practices.
Maintenance Operations
- Oversee regular care, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and emergency maintenance for all facility assets.
- Direct maintenance activities for:
- Production machines and process equipment
- Building and grounds
- HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and fixtures
- Trucks, forklifts, and mobile equipment
- Facility support systems and housekeeping-related equipment
- Maintain a preventive maintenance calendar and ensure effective planning and scheduling through the CMMS.
- Monitor equipment performance and maintain awareness of the proper functioning of all critical assets.
- Support all operational areas and prioritize work to minimize production disruptions and customer impact.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement programs that improve equipment availability, reliability, and asset life.
- Recommend equipment modifications and process improvements to improve capability, yield, cycle time, and cost performance.
- Lead root cause failure analyses and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare technical reports documenting equipment modifications and maintenance procedures.
- Maintain equipment manuals, drawings, and technical documentation.
Budget & Contractor Management
- Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, including labor, materials, contractors, and maintenance services.
- Purchase parts, equipment, and maintenance supplies as required.
- Hire and coordinate outside contractors, including electricians, plumbers, and other skilled trades.
- Maintain a list of preferred suppliers and service providers.
- Communicate significant expenditures, resource shortages, and ongoing maintenance concerns to management.
Leadership & Workforce Development
- Drive team performance through culture, training, accountability, and employee development.
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors, planners, and maintenance personnel.
- Ensure adequate staffing, training, and succession planning to support departmental needs.
- Foster collaboration between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, and other departments.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment through continuous housekeeping efforts.
- Provide 24-hour on-call support for emergency maintenance situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience with power transmission, HVAC, electrical systems, PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, and facility maintenance.
- Experience managing maintenance budgets, contractors, and major maintenance activities.
- Proficiency with CMMS systems, Microsoft Office, and other computer-based maintenance tools.
- Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and project management skills.
Preferred
- Experience in the paper, pulp, packaging, or other heavy manufacturing industries.
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance technologies, and root cause analysis.
- CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) certification or equivalent.
