Position Mission:  The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for managing the overall maintenance, repair, construction and upkeep of the facility and mechanical maintenance of the plant and equipment, ensuring full Regulatory compliance. 

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the daily functions of the maintenance and repair department.
    • Review all production lines for layout, make recommendations accordingly.
    • Review all production lines to ensure equipment optimization.
    • Review and recommend automation upgrades with relevant ROI.
    • Review facility layout and recommend areas of improvement using capital expenditure procedures.
    • Outline all maintenance activities and forecast time and budget requirements while meeting deadlines.
    • Manage all Capital Expenditure projects with full accountability for budget adherence and on time completion. Provide monthly and/or requested progress reports.
  • Manage the Daily Work Order Process for all Repairs:
    • Analyze and monitor the parts inventory process.
    • Implement checks and balance system for inventory part purchasing.
    • Complete periodic reviews of inventory on handling and usage patterns.
  • Manage department weekly P&L – conduct periodic vendor selection audits adhering to company code of conduct.
  • Manage the implementation and audit of a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program.
    •  Review equipment condition and determine most efficient and cost-effective preventative maintenance schedules/frequency.
    • Manage existing PM program and its continuous development to ensure improve equipment reliability, minimize replacements, decrease down time, and improve spares inventory management.
    • Review preventative maintenance logs to identify equipment deficiencies and schedule relevant repairs with minimum production disruptions.
    • Review and coordinate PM projects with production and sanitation departments, and request feedback on prioritization of work activities.
    • Plan the above with sanitation department to avoid scheduling conflicts. 
    • Supervise all work in maintenance projects carried out in house or outsourced from start to finish.
    • Responsible for strict adherence to budget allocation.
  • Oversee  Facilities Management
    • Responsible for the installation and maintenance of all emergency equipment.
    • Responsible for the maintenance of plant-wide alarm system.
    • Responsible for the maintenance, testing and upgrade of all systems – including
      • Lighting
      • Locks and master keys
      • Fencing
      • Door alarms
  • Assist R&D when new product production with equipment and line adjustments.
  • Coordinate with department managers and production and sanitation teams to provide cost-saving solutions to operational issues.
  • Communication process:
    • Communicate to management all issues and decisions impacting production results, revenue, process improvements or department/staff issues.   Issue daily down time report.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Actively participate and support the Safety Committee.
  • Actively participate and support the Food Defense Team.
  • Chair the departmental meetings – follow up on action items through to successful completion.
  • Abide by and lead by example to enforce the Plant Rules and Regulations as described in the Employee Guidelines and GMPs.
  • Responsible for for overall food safety, quality, and legality as it pertains to the department.
  • Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Complete tasks and projects as required by the company.

Supervisory Responsibilities.

  • Manage the Maintenance staff:
    • Observe individual maintenance performance and provide on-the-job training and guidance as needed.
    • Complete annual performance evaluations for staff timely.
    • Make recommendations to restructure department staffing as deem necessary.
    • Conduct periodic line training set-up, cleaning, equipment maintenance and repair.
    • Provide hands-on training on general maintenance activities including construction, painting, welding, soldering, refrigeration repair, in complete conformance to all company and Regulatory Standards.
  • Check GMP adherence daily and LOTO and other safety policies accordingly.
  • Assist in the training and development of staff through performance supervision and feedback.
  • Ensure a safe and clean working environment.
  • Supervise staff attendance, lunches and breaks.
  • Responsible for vendors/contractors adherence to GMPs and Company Policies including confidentiality agreement.
  • Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department;

Reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance employees.

  • Provide for emergency response including First Aid and CPR.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to understand and communicate complex technical and procedural instructions and complex safety issues.
  • Must be able to understand and demonstrate basic safety skills.
  • Comprehensive mechanical skills.
  • Trained in Welding – Mig Tig Oxy Acetaline Arc.
  • Trained in the overall operation of mill and lathe shop equipment.
  • Trained in plumbing and electrical fabrication.
  • Trained in Electrical trouble-shooting Circuit board repair.
  • Trained in PLC Programming and trouble-shooting.
  • Trained in general equipment control of hydraulic pneumatic systems.
  • Trained in HACCP and Pre-Requisite programs, Code of Safe Practices, Chemical Handling, Workplace Harassment Prevention, etc.
  • Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and computer based materials management tools.

Required Experience:

  • Degree in engineering or facility management or a maintenance manager certification or familiarity with economic aspects of maintenance management, including budgeting costs, negotiating contracts with equipment vendors and hiring personnel.
