This position requires availability Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to work overtime based on business and operational needs.
Job Details
Trimac Transportation, a North American leader in bulk transportation, is seeking a proactive and results-driven Facility Manager to oversee all aspects of shop and/or washrack operations. This position is responsible for facility leadership, maintenance performance, environmental compliance, team development, and customer service excellence.
The Facility Manager ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of maintenance and cleaning activities while supporting operational goals, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.
This role reports to the Area Manager, with dotted-line accountability to the NTS Director.
Who You Are
- Strong knowledge of mechanical repair and tank wash operations.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance standards (B620, HM183, environmental laws).
- Strong leadership and coaching abilities; proven team-building skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interface at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and shop management systems.
- Customer-focused mindset with business development acumen.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Operational Oversight
- Lead day-to-day operations of the shop and washrack, ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality work on all equipment.
- Oversee both planned and unplanned maintenance, repair, and tank cleaning operations.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are maintained in accordance with federal, state/provincial, and corporate guidelines.
- Manage throughput and evaluate process efficiencies for continuous improvement.
- Track and control parts, tires, chemicals, and equipment inventory.
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety policies, environmental protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g., TDG, WHMIS, effluent management, confined space entry).
- Maintain records of inspections, testing, and maintenance activity in accordance with B620/HM183 and other applicable standards.
- Ensure proper disposal of waste and effluents and report discrepancies to appropriate stakeholders.
People Leadership
- Hire, train, supervise, and coach shop and/or washrack staff including mechanics, technicians, and support personnel.
- Monitor performance, ensure proper use of safety equipment, and foster a culture of accountability.
- Lead performance reviews, employee development plans, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Monitor payroll and overtime to ensure labor cost efficiency.
Customer Service & Commercial Growth
- Maintain relationships with customers, internal sales teams, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure service quality meets or exceeds expectations and address any service failures.
- Support and grow commercial shop and/or cleaning revenue by managing existing accounts and soliciting new opportunities.
- Approve and process work orders, cleaning tickets, and invoicing to ensure accurate billing and participate in timely accounts receivable collection.
Financial Management
- Manage operating budgets, monitor maintenance costs, and ensure financial performance aligns with branch targets.
- Control expenditures on labor, parts, and supplies; participate in annual budgeting and capital expenditure requests.
- Track revenue, productivity, and KPI performance for both shop and/or washrack operations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; post-secondary education or technical certifications in heavy-duty mechanics, operations, or related field preferred.
- 5–7 years of experience in maintenance operations, tank wash services, or related industrial environments.
- 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role required.
